The grade for two awkward cases: inactive substrates, and hot oil. Where most anaerobics lose strength in motor oil at 125°C, 2701 gains it — 110% of initial strength after 1,000 hours. It is also formulated to cure on chromated and plated surfaces that slow other grades down, and it tolerates slight industrial oil contamination.
Key features
- High strength — 26–50 N·m breakaway on M10 black oxide
- Maximum resistance to hot oil — 110% of initial strength after 1,000 h at 125°C
- Suited to inactive and chromated substrates
- 18–30 N/mm² compressive shear, the highest in the threadlocker range
- Low viscosity, wicks into the thread
- Heat needed for disassembly
Typical applications
- Low-halide requirements
- High strength locking

Torque and strength
After 24 hours at 22°C.
| Breakaway torque, M10 black oxide steel | 26–50 N·m (230–440 lb·in) |
| Prevail torque, M10 black oxide steel | ≥15 N·m (≥132 lb·in) |
| Breakloose torque, pre-torqued to 5 N·m | 30–60 N·m (265–530 lb·in) |
| Max. prevail torque, pre-torqued to 5 N·m | 36–60 N·m (320–530 lb·in) |
| Compressive shear strength (ISO 10123) | 18–30 N/mm² (2,610–4,350 psi) |
Chemical resistance
Breakloose torque as a percentage of initial strength — note it rises rather than falls.

How to use it
- Clean all threads, internal and external, with a Loctite cleaning solvent and allow to dry.
- Shake the bottle thoroughly before use.
- Do not let the nozzle touch metal — it makes the product cure in the tip.
- Thru holes: apply several drops onto the bolt at the nut engagement area.
- Blind holes: apply several drops down the internal threads to the bottom of the hole.
- Sealing: apply a 360° bead to the leading male threads, leaving the first thread free, and work it into the thread roots.
- Assemble and tighten to the specified torque within the fixture time.
Handling and storage
- Not recommended for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems.
- Not a sealant for chlorine or other strong oxidising materials.
- Not normally recommended on plastics — thermoplastics can stress-crack.
- On passive metals (stainless, aluminium, plated) or below 5°C, use Loctite SF 7471 or SF 7649 activator to bring the cure speed up.
- Store unopened and dry. Henkel gives optimal storage as 8°C to 21°C; outside 8–28°C the product properties can be affected.
- Do not return decanted product to the original container.
- Disassembly: apply localised heat to about 250°C and take the joint apart while hot — hand tools will not release a high-strength grade.
Loctite 2701 or 270?
Both are green high-strength grades. 2701 is the specialist: pick it when the threads are chromated or otherwise inactive, or when the joint sits in hot oil, where it actually gains strength. 270 is the better general-purpose choice and carries NSF P1 registration for food processing areas, which 2701 does not.
