The emergency stick. Cut a piece, knead it for two minutes and press it on — it cures in ten minutes and it works under water. That combination is why it lives in a maintenance bag: leaking pipes and tanks, oversized bolt holes, rough welds and non-structural casting defects, fixed without draining the system down.
Key features
- Cures under water and adheres to most damp surfaces
- Cures in 10 minutes — working life 4 minutes
- No mixing tools — knead the stick by hand in gloves
- 50 N/mm² compressive strength, 70 Shore D
- Steel filled; cures to a metallic black steel-like finish
- Thermal conductivity 1.01 W/(m·K) — ten times that of an anaerobic
- Smooths to a clean finish with a wet gloved finger
Typical applications
- Emergency leak repair
- Pipe and tank patching

How to use it
- Do not apply to surfaces above 66°C.
- Apply to a clean dry surface for best strength. It can be applied wet, but the bond strength will be lower.
- For maximum adhesion, clean and sand the surface first.
- Use gloves — do not mix with bare hands.
- Cut the amount needed from the stick and remove the clear plastic wrapper.
- Twist the piece to produce a spiral of resin and hardener, then knead for 2–3 minutes until the colour is uniform.
- Press firmly into place. For a smooth finish, wet a cloth or gloved finger with water.
Handling and storage
- Relative humidity below 85%; ambient temperature above 15°C and rising.
- Substrate temperature must be at least 3°C above the dew point, or moisture condenses on the part.
- Working time and cure depend on temperature and mass — the larger the mixed quantity, the faster it goes off.
- To speed cure in the cold: store the epoxy at room temperature and pre-heat the repair surface until warm to the touch.
- To slow cure in the heat: mix in small masses and cool the components first.
- Store unopened and dry, ideally 8°C to 21°C; outside 8–28°C the properties can be affected.
EA 3463 or EA 3471?
Different jobs. EA 3463 is the stick: ten-minute cure, works under water, no mixing equipment, and the right answer to a leak that has to stop now. EA 3471 is the machinable rebuild — 61.7 against 50 N/mm² compressive, and it can be drilled, tapped and turned once cured, but it needs grit blasting and half an hour of working time. Emergency patch → 3463. Restoring a part to size → 3471. For underwater work on a larger area, also consider Devcon Wet Surface Repair Putty (UW).
