An activator, not a cleaner. Anaerobic threadlockers, retainers and sealants cure on the metal ions in the joint — so on passive surfaces like stainless steel, plated or inert metals, in large gaps, or when the workshop is below 15°C, the cure slows right down. SF 7471 restores it. Once applied, parts stay activated for up to seven days.

Fixture time is the time to develop 0.1 N/mm² shear strength.

How to use it
- Spray or brush the activator onto both mating surfaces. For small gaps, treating one surface may be enough.
- Contaminated surfaces may need repeated treatment or degreasing first. Porous surfaces may need two treatments.
- Let the solvent evaporate under good ventilation until the surfaces are completely dry.
- Bond within 7 days of activating, and keep the surfaces clean in the meantime.
- Apply the anaerobic product to one or both surfaces and assemble immediately.
- Where possible, move the surfaces against each other for a few seconds on assembly to distribute the adhesive and maximise activation.
- Secure the assembly and wait for fixture before further handling.
Handling and storage
- Classified HIGHLY FLAMMABLE — store accordingly and keep away from oxidising agents and combustible materials.
- Light sensitive — keep translucent containers in a dark place when not in use.
- Never mix activator and adhesive directly as liquids.
- Use only in a well-ventilated area. Keep the product and its vapour away from naked flame and non-flameproof electrical equipment.
- The solvent can affect certain plastics and coatings — check compatibility before use.
- Where aqueous washing systems are used before bonding, check the wash is compatible with the adhesive; some affect cure and performance.
- Store unopened and dry, ideally 8°C to 21°C. Do not return decanted product to the container.
SF 7471 or SF 7649?
Both are activators for the same job and both dry in 30–70 seconds. Two differences decide it. On-part life: 7471 gives 7 days, 7649 gives 30 — useful if parts are activated in a batch and bonded later. Approvals: 7649 carries NSF 61 for potable water and NSF P1 for food processing areas; 7471 does not. For water or food plant work, specify 7649. For cleaning rather than accelerating, use SF 7063.
