The copper-and-graphite anti-seize, and the one most people picture when they hear the term. It shields threads against high-temperature seizing and galling to 982°C, so studs, bolts, flanges and gaskets come apart cleanly at the next overhaul instead of shearing. Henkel names petroleum and chemical plant, steel mills, power stations, marine and foundries as its typical service.
Key features
- Operating range −29°C to +982°C
- Copper and graphite suspended in a high-quality grease
- Protects against rust, corrosion, galling and seizing
- Suits copper, brass, cast iron, steel, all alloys including stainless, plastics and non-metallic gasketing
- Tested to the requirements of MIL-PRF-907-H
- NLGI Grade 0; penetration 320–380 (1/10 mm)
- Torque coefficient 0.16 against 0.27 for a clean unlubricated bolt
Typical applications
- Threaded fasteners
- High temperature bolts

Torque and clamp load
An anti-seize on a bolt develops greater clamp load for the same torque than an unlubricated bolt, and gives more uniform clamp load across a series of bolts. Henkel expresses the relationship as T = K × F × D, where T is torque, K the torque coefficient, F the clamp load and D the nominal bolt diameter.
| Condition | Torque coefficient K |
|---|
| 1/2 in. steel bolts (grade 8), nuts (grade 5), lubricated | 0.16 |
| 1/2 in. steel bolts (grade 8), nuts (grade 5), solvent cleaned, not lubricated | 0.27 |

| Typical parts | Screws, nuts, pipes, exhaust bolts, brake caliper bolts, studs, flanges |
| Industries | Petroleum and chemicals, steel mills, power plants, marine, foundries |
How to use it
- The mating surface should be clean and free of grease for best performance.
- When grinding or wire brushing, wear a dust mask. Dust from cleaning threads may contain metal compounds; inhalation may cause lung injury or other harm.
- Apply a thin coating to the threads and the flats of nuts and bolts, then assemble.
- On threaded fasteners, brush a 360° band around the male fastener and work it into the thread roots.
- For threaded assemblies, thread the coated fastener in, back it off and reassemble to spread the lubricant evenly.
Handling and storage
- Not recommended for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems.
- Not a sealant for chlorine or other strong oxidising materials.
- An anti-seize changes the torque you need. Its torque coefficient is 0.16 against 0.27 for a clean dry bolt — the same torque produces a much higher clamp load, so torque figures must be recalculated or the fastener can be over-stressed.
- Store unopened and dry, ideally 8°C to 21°C; outside 8–28°C the properties can be affected.
- Do not return decanted product to the original container.
LB 8008 or LB 8009?
Both stop threads seizing; the split is what is in them. 8008 is copper and graphite — the general-purpose choice to 982°C. 8009 is graphite and calcium fluoride, free of copper, lead and sulphur and containing no free metals, which is what makes it the grade for stainless steel and nickel alloys where copper can cause problems, and it goes to 1,315°C. If the joint is stainless or the specification bans copper, use 8009.
