The metal-free anti-seize. It is a graphite and calcium fluoride formulation containing no free metals and free of lead, copper, sulphur and their compounds — which is precisely why it is specified on stainless steel and nickel alloys, where copper-bearing pastes can be a problem. It also carries the highest temperature rating of anything here: 1,315°C.
Key features
- Operating range −29°C to +1,315°C — the highest in the range
- Contains no free metals; free of lead, copper, sulphur and their compounds
- Compatible with stainless steel and other nickel alloys
- Graphite and calcium fluoride formulation
- Penetration 270–370 (1/10 mm)
- Torque coefficient 0.16 against 0.27 for a clean unlubricated bolt
- Used in chemical plant, refineries, power stations, paper and steel mills, foundries, synthetic fibre plants, and ship and aerospace work
Typical applications
- Extreme temperature
- Marine fasteners

Torque and clamp load
An anti-seize on a bolt develops greater clamp load for the same torque than an unlubricated bolt, and gives more uniform clamp load across a series of bolts. Henkel expresses the relationship as T = K × F × D, where T is torque, K the torque coefficient, F the clamp load and D the nominal bolt diameter.
| Condition | Torque coefficient K |
|---|
| 12.7 mm steel bolts (grade 8), nuts (grade 5), lubricated | 0.16 |
| 12.7 mm steel bolts (grade 8), nuts (grade 5), solvent cleaned, not lubricated | 0.27 |

How to use it
- The mating surface should be clean and free of grease for best performance.
- When grinding or wire brushing, wear a dust mask. Dust from cleaning threads may contain metal compounds; inhalation may cause lung injury or other harm.
- Apply a thin coating to the threads and the flats of nuts and bolts, then assemble.
- Do not use thinner.
Handling and storage
- Not recommended for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems.
- Not a sealant for chlorine or other strong oxidising materials.
- An anti-seize changes the torque you need. Its torque coefficient is 0.16 against 0.27 for a clean dry bolt — the same torque produces a much higher clamp load, so torque figures must be recalculated or the fastener can be over-stressed.
- Store unopened and dry, ideally 8°C to 21°C; outside 8–28°C the properties can be affected.
- Do not return decanted product to the original container.
Choosing an anti-seize
8009 when the joint is stainless or a nickel alloy, when the specification bans copper or lead, or when the temperature exceeds 982°C — it runs to 1,315°C. 8008 C5-A for general high-temperature work to 982°C on steel, cast iron, brass and most alloys. Both raise clamp load for a given torque in the same way, so torque figures need recalculating either way.
